The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced relief for those affected by Hurricane Irma. HUD has announced several different programs for relief. These may be of some help to you:
90-day moratorium—HUD has instituted a 90-Day Moratorium on foreclosures and forbearance on foreclosures of Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured home mortgages.
Mortgage Insurance—HUD’s section 203(h) and 203(k) programs provide FHA insurance for those who have lost their homes to help with the purchase of a new home or the rebuilding of a damaged home.
The first step on determining whether this relief may be of aid to you is to reach out to your lender to determine if your loan is insured by the FHA. Next, determine whether you are eligible for the aid provided by HUD by reaching out to them.
